After starting the season on a four-game winning streak, the Allen Community College men’s basketball team was pulled back down to earth over the weekend when it lost two games in a tournament in Sedalia, Mo.
On Friday, the Red Devils (4-2) lost 111-105 to State Fair Community College in overtime.
In a back-and-forth game that included 12 lead changes and 14 ties, State Fair was able to separate itself from Allen at the free throw line, finishing the night 39-of-48.
Quentin Blaue gave the Red Devils a chance to win the game when he hit a three-point shot with four seconds on the clock to force overtime. But Allen failed to take advantage in the extra period and lost its first contest of the year.
The next night, coach Andy Shaw’s squad once again suffered a heartbreaking loss in overtime. But this time the Red Devils’ opponent, Moberly Area Community College, was the team that tied the matchup late in the fourth quarter.
With six seconds in regulation, Allen fouled to send Moberly to the free throw line. After sinking one, the game was tied.
In overtime, Moberly controlled the game and gave Allen its second loss in as many days.
The Red Devils take the floor next on Tuesday night at 8 when they host KCKCC.
